Assess GEO progress by separating work, answers and inquiries

Keep observation conditions explicit and assess deliverables, AI answers and inquiries separately.

Blue and white glass concept

One appearance in an AI answer is an observation, not proof of sustained visibility or attributable sales. Keep three kinds of evidence separate when reviewing GEO work.

Check agreed deliverables

Review fact checks, page revisions, content delivery and publication records against the agreed scope. Record versions, dates and outstanding customer confirmations. Keep incomplete work visible rather than substituting a visibility result for delivery acceptance.

Record answer conditions

For each observation, save the platform, visible model name, question, date, region, language, login conditions, browsing setting, original answer and cited links. Mark changes in conditions and keep failed or unavailable observations separate from valid answers.

Google's AI search documentation explains that AI Overviews and AI Mode can use different models and techniques, with varying answers and links. Record other platforms under their own observed conditions rather than transferring conclusions between them.

Separate visits and inquiries

Track visits, submitted inquiries, qualified needs, quotes and sales as distinct events. Use non-sensitive source classifications under the appropriate notice and consent, and ask customers how they found the brand.

A customer's reported AI referral is useful context. Check it alongside timing, entry points and subsequent conversations before assigning a sale to GEO.

Define the denominator

An agreed mention rate could count valid answers mentioning the brand divided by all valid answers. For citation rates, first agree which domains or sources qualify. State the question set, sample size, period and failed-sample count.

These are proposed recording definitions, not verified outcome figures. Small-sample percentages are not long-term guarantees.

Decide the next check

List completed work, observed changes, uncertainties and next actions. Confirm service scope, cost and execution arrangements in writing.
